Why Custom Products?

MEMS technology is so versatile that it can be integrated and deployed in the widest variety of applications. However, the complexity of use, development and manufacturing that characterizes MEMS technology demands, in order to successfully go from idea to production, a strong products expertise and experience, together with a thorough knowledge of the processes and the specific manufacturing tools.

Many terrific ideas of MEMS remained unexploited because of lack of knowledge enabling the adaptation of that idea into a feasible concept and then into a product that can be manufactured in volume.

This is why MEMSCAP offers today all industries, universities and fields, the possibility to transform those ideas into real products.

Who shall contact MEMSCAP Custom Products Business Unit?

Today, MEMSCAP provides custom products for the whole spectrum of MEMS applications, from biomedical to telecommunications, through optical and consumer markets.

We offer our clients custom products (wafers, MEMS dies and wafer level packaged devices) and manufacturing services from our North Carolina platform that was upgraded to 6 inch in 2004.

MEMSCAP is today the only company with the expertise and resources necessary to deal with all MEMS manufacturing processes, from silicon and SOI (silicon on insulator) bulk micromachining, to surface micromachining, through thick- metal processes (such as thick copper), and IC compatible MEMS processes.

Our Customer references are numerous and prestigious, even if most of them cannot be disclosed for confidentiality reasons. You may still read about some of them in our press releases in Press Archives, as well as the page Press Articles.

How are these products manufactured?

Leveraging on its expertise, its years of experience in design and volume manufacturing, capitalising on its highly performant teams, and using its vast patent portfolio, MEMSCAP offers, through its Custom Products Business Unit, a wide range of services, solutions and products enabling creativity and optimal integration of MEMS technology into the systems and products of our clients.

What plus does MEMSCAP bring you?

The services premise is simple: what does it cost to reach maximum productivity and to get a competitive jump on the market?

MEMSCAP Custom Products Business Unit adapts to address each customer's specific needs, resulting in operational cost savings from product performance, increased productivity and faster market entry. This is made possible with the optimisation of the development and volume production time cycle.

Does MEMSCAP offer prototyping services?

MEMSCAP offers the world most renowned prototyping service, MUMPs®, which enables new comers in the MEMS technology world to walk their first steps on this market without a cost barrier.

MUMPs : The most renowned MEMS prototyping service in the world, reduces the cost of access to MEMS technology

MUMPs®, which stands for Multi-User MEMS Processes service, is the ultimate standardized platform for proof-of-concept fabrication. Fabricated out of the Research Triangle Park, North Carolina facility for fourteen years, this prototyping service has been operated by MEMSCAP since November 2002. The longest running and most renowned multi-user program for MEMS manufacturing in the world, MUMPs® is the defacto standard process to support academic, government, and industrial research in MEMS. Originally developed as part of a MEMS infrastructure program, MUMPs uses standard yet diversified process technologies that serve universities, laboratories, companies and researchers. The service has expanded over the years from one to four distinct multiple mask-level processes, adding thick metal, SOI, and CMOS-MEMS process to the polysilicon surface micromachining process. MUMPs® versatile possibilities adapt to endless features, devices, and applications. The service’s low cost allows researchers with even the smallest budgets to realize their ideas. Nearly half a million MEMS devices have been shipped to over 1000 customers thanks to the MUMPs program.
